A four car collision on the A142 between Witchford and Soham caused traffic to come to a standstill last night.

The crash, which involved a black Mercedes Benz Sport 220, Audi A4, Volkswagen Golf and a Vauxhall Astra took place at around 5.40pm.

The road was at a standstill by 6pm.

The Mercedes ended up in a roadside ditch and is likely to be a write off.

A police support unit happened to be passing as the matter was being reported.

PC Matt Smith, of Cambridge district said: “The damage was very heavy and it was remarkable that everyone walked away shaken but unhurt.”
