The former head teacher of a local primary school was given the best possible leaving present after her old school was rated ‘good’ by Ofsted.

Nicola Bramley retired just two weeks after Isleham Church of England Primary school’s most recent inspection on March 15, and the former head teacher was praised for her work in the report which promoted the school on Malting Lane from ‘requires improvement’ to ‘good.’

The quality of teaching, the behaviour and attitudes of pupils and the leadership of the head teacher and governors were all described as good, and inspectors said teaching at times was ‘outstanding’, and that lessons were ‘well-organised’ and ‘interesting’.

They praised the leadership of Mrs Bramley, who has been replaced by acting head teachers Rhian Bond and Dawn Deacon since her retirement.

Lead inspector Ruth Brock’s report said Mrs Bramley provided ‘strong leadership,’ and that there is a ‘culture of mutual respect and collaborative leadership’ throughout the school.

Mrs Bond said: “The journey of school improvement reflects the hard work of the whole school community, including pupils, parents and staff.
