A city-centre bench has been dedicated to a former councillor who passed away last year.
Friends and family of former King’s Ely employee and city councillor Nigel Clarke gathered at Barton Square this week to unveil the bench in his memory.
Mayor of Ely, Councillor Richard Hobbs, praised Nigel for his willingness to “roll his sleeves up” and get involved in council jobs including improvements to the cemetery to putting up the city’s Christmas lights.
He said: “Nigel Clark was highly respected in the city; he gave his time freely in many practical ways to numerous organisations which was demonstrated by those that turned up to the dedication of a bench in the memory of a hard working member of our community.
“He is greatly missed by so many and irreplaceable.”
Nigel received a volunteer award in 2015 in recognition of his work for Ely in Bloom, Centre E and at the city’s allotments.
