The Isle of Ely Federation FWI was treated to a visit from the first female director of the MI5 at its October meeting.
Over 200 members listened attentively as Dame Stella Rimington told tales of her life working as an archivist in Worcestershire, before moving to India with her husband.
She also told members of her rise through the ranks at the MI5, and presented certificates and trophies to the winners of the club’s sporting activities.
Jane Dixon, head of Denman, the WI adult education college, also delivered a talk, explaining how the college was bought with the help of members in 1948 to help women further their education.
Baroness Cohen of Pimlico, a member of the House of Lords, also gave a fascinating insight into how the House is made up and the work that it does in helping to govern our country.
