Twenty four hours after police revealed that a man in his 20s from Chatteris had been arrested (a second arrest was announced today) forensic teams moved in on the house in Mayfly Close.

The operation follows the discovery of the body of Sam Mechelewski, 20, in Huntingdon, last Thursday.

Police have been at a Mayfly Close for much of the day – one resident said the road was temporarily closed off at one stage of the inquiry.

Another resident claimed to have seen a police helicopter over the area - but this has been denied by police.

A police spokesman confirmed, however, that it is “a search in connection with the murder investigation”.

At about 1.40pm on Thursday (February 1) Sam’s body was found by a member of the public in a wooded area of Hinchingbrooke Country Park.

Detective Chief Inspector Adam Gallop said: “We believe this was a targeted attack that has sadly resulted in the death of a young man.

“We’re slowly piecing together Sam’s movements from 8pm onwards on Wednesday (January 31).

“I appeal to anyone who knows Sam and saw him that evening, or anyone who was in the park and noticed anything suspicious, to contact us as a matter of urgency.”

In a statement, Sam’s family said news of his death had led to the “the worst 24 hours of our lives. Sam will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

“Sam was no angel, but his life should not have ended this way. If anyone has information please contact the police.”

Sam’s body was found in a remote part of the park - police searched the wood in the area where Sam was found, including a team using rakes which went through the wood on Saturday.

Police have also been carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the area as well as checking nearby roads.

The area where Sam was discovered is at the opposite end of the park to the main entrance and closer to the A14. There is a small entrance to the park close to the search area which gives access to a housing area.

A post mortem examination was conducted on Sam, who was of no fixed address but living in Huntingdon, on Friday evening, but no further details have been made public about the cause of his death.
