MARKET trader Nigel Graver has retired after 23 years serving on Ely’s Thursday and Saturday markets.

MARKET trader Nigel Graver has retired after 23 years serving on Ely’s Thursday and Saturday markets.

Nigel, of Littleport, has kept his customers well fed throughout the years with his array of cakes, biscuits and other sweet treats.

His regular pitch was alongside the Nationwide Building Society in Butter Market.

His last day was Thursday and he many loyal customers stopped off to wish him well for the future for a new career in catering.

Tracey Harding, town centres team leader at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “Ely markets rely on the support and contribution of people like Nigel who attend week in week out whatever the weather all year round.

“We would like to thank Nigel for his hard work and support in making the market such a success and we all wish him well in his new ventures.”

Rodney and Audrey Vincent of Stuntney said: “Nigel was a real institution. He had some fantastic bargains on his stall and we will really miss him.”
