HUNDREDS of dead fish had to be removed from the River Lode at Soham this weekend after run-off caused by flash floods poisoned the water.
Technicians from the Environment Agency took about 300 dead roach and pike from the river after receiving a call on Friday.
"The dissolved oxygen level in the water was low and it appears that the heavy rain washed some kind of contaminant into the water which killed the fish," a spokesman said.
She said the water was now safe, but that the Environment Agency was investigating the incident.
