First phase of 1,200-home North Ely expansion made available to developers

Developers have been invited to bid for land on the outskirts of Ely that will form part of the first phase of the North Ely expansion project.
The 22 acre site is split into two separate parcels and is located on the northern edge of the city –to the north of Cam Drive, adjacent to the new Isle of Ely Primary School, which is currently under construction.
The two parcels of land have planning permission for almost 200 homes – 10 per cent of which will be affordable – and will be the first part of the 1,200 home North Ely development.
The site is being offered for sale by estate agents Cheffins, based in Ely.
The larger parcel is 18 acres and has planning permission for 147 homes, while the smaller parcel is four acres and has permission for 44 homes.
Cheffins director, Jonathan Stiff said: “This is an excellent opportunity to purchase the first phase of a prestigious new development site on the edge of the city.
“With outline planning permission already agreed for 191 new homes I am confident that it’s going to generate a lot of interest.
“The site is offered as a whole or in two separate parcels. Interested parties are invited to submit offers, together with a layout plan on which their offer is based, by no later than noon on Friday, May 15.”
Outline planning permission for the 1,200-home North Ely expansion was granted in March 2014 on land between the A10 and Lynn Road, subject to the completion of a developer agreements – which could see millions of pounds worth of funds paid into the public purse for infrastructure and road improvements.
