Fireworks mean funds take-off

CHARITIES and local groups celebrated a cracking start to the new year after benefiting from a share in £4,500 raised by the organisers of Wilburton s annual fireworks display. Members of the village s 77 Committee handed out cheques at their presentation

CHARITIES and local groups celebrated a cracking start to the new year after benefiting from a share in £4,500 raised by the organisers of Wilburton's annual fireworks display.

Members of the village's 77 Committee handed out cheques at their presentation evening on Monday to 12 local organisations.

The cash was split between Humptys Pre School, Wilburton Youth Group, Haddenham Scouts and the Scout Fellowship.

A donation was also made to Ely Police who chose to help 1st Wilburton Brownies, Wilburton's Baptist Chapel, CAMTAD - which helps the hearing impaired, the Tinderbox playgroup in Aldreth, HEART - the Haddenham Equipment and Resuscitation Trust, Wilburton Baptist Baby and Toddler Group and the village's Theatre Group and Cricket Club.

Over the years the Wilburton 77 Committee has donated almost £30,000 to local groups.
