NUMEROUS 999 calls were made to the fire service last night (November 5) although most turned out to be false alarms.

Crews from the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service were called out to 14 separate 'incidents' between 6pm on Bonfire Night and 4am the following morning. However, the fire service say only four of these calls turned out to be genuine incidents. Teri Seaber, group manager for fire control, said: "We are very pleased that there were no significant incidents last night, however, the celebrations continue into the weekend and we are calling for residents to continue to use fireworks sensibly and ensure their bonfires are safely managed."

The only incident in East Cambridgeshire was at 8.52pm when one crew was called from Soham to a car fire at The Birches in Soham. Fire-fighters arrived to find a car on fire, which they extinguished using one hose reel. The fire had been started deliberately.
