DRUNKEN Faye Szulc caused a rumpus in the Tesco store at Ely when she pretended to steal items and then swore at a security officer.

Police were called to the supermarket in the early hours, and when arrested, Szulc was abusive to officers and kicked out at a police van as she was put inside.

Szulc had gone into the Angel Drove premises with two friends, and police were called when she shouted filthy language and abuse.

"They had been messing about, pretending to put items into their coat and then putting things back on the shelves," Ely magistrates were told by prosecutor Laura Mardell.

"She picked up a sandwich and paid for it, but continued to be mouthy, shouting and swearing."

"She moved into the front foyer and was asked to leave. She was abusive to a security officer, and became louder and abusive."

Szulc, 21, of Churchgate Street, Soham, admitted using threatening or insulting words or behaviour on January 9. She was fined £100 with £45 costs and a £15 surcharge.

A security officer's statement said he found Szulc's language offensive, and stressful to deal with.

Mitigating, Jacqui Baldwin said: "She had been out with a family friend and drank to excess. She went to the store, but has little recollection of the incident. She knows she was offensive to the security officer.

"She feels disappointed to be back before the court after more than a year of not committing offences. She knows her behaviour was totally offensive and inappropriate."

Presiding magistrate Dr Christine Shaw told Szulc: "It was a stupid thing to do, to get blind drunk and make an idiot of yourself and be offensive in a supermarket. We take a grave view of this offence.
