THE City of Ely Royal British Legion's next branch meeting will be on June 24 at 7.30pm in the Red Cross Centre, Ely.

Ely Museum

CELEBRATE the Museum at Night Weekend on May 16-18 with a visit to Ely Museum where an atmospheric viewing of Nick Park's Oscar-winning animation The Wrong Trousers and Aardman Animation's Shaun the Sheep will be available. Tickets £1.

Countess Freechurch

THE Fellowship Hour last Wednesday afternoon was led by Jean Johnson. Maurice Roberts was the pianist.

Sunday morning service was opened by Keith Waters, the musicians and lady singers leading the congregation in a time of praise and worship. The Sunday School held its worship and learning sessions in the church hall.

Pastor Lowman gave the message on John 21. Holy Communion was celebrated and Peter and Ann Lee were received into church membership.

The evening service worship session was led by Andy Watson.

Thursday evening at 7.45pm there was child and vulnerable adult protection training in the church. This was attended by the people who are going up to High Barns evangelising the gospel message.

The Wednesday evening prayer meeting was focused on Christian Aid Week (May 11-17) and on the Jubilee debt relief throughout the poorer countries worldwide.

Tonight (Thursday) the elders and Deacons meet for prayer, discussion and seeking the Lord.

Saturday morning, those who support the Newmarket and District Youth For Christ will attend their AGM and prayer breakfast at Fordham Congregational Church, at 8.30am. The Bowls Club is going to the almonry for a meal at 12.30pm and then, in the afternoon, will have a bowls session.

This Sunday, Pentecost, the theme of the morning service will be 'The presence and purpose of the Holy Spirit'.

Methodist Church

THE Sunday morning service was led by John Gautrey at 11am. It opened with a reading and prayer by the church steward. Five hymns were sung. The minister spoke to the children on names of roses and their meaning and how Jesus named the 12 disciples. Readings were from the Old Testament. The text for the day was 'fellowship of love'. Morning coffee was served after the service.

The evening service at 6.30pm was led by Ian Weatherall. Musicians were Donald Monk and Ginny Klein.

The Olive Tree Fellowship

SUNDAY morning's worship drew us into a deep awareness of the grace of God. This intensified as Tim Frost led us into Holy Communion. The pastor spoke on guidance, and how to interpret it when it appears to come.

Sunday: Pentecost Sunday worship is at 10.30am and the speaker will be Tim Frost, elder in the church. Crèche and Sunday School will be provided. All are welcome. On Friday, from 10am till noon, the Open Door Café will run at the church (in Silver Street), offering a friendly place in which to enjoy refreshments and good company.

Parish Church

MORNING Prayer at St Michael and All Angels on Sunday was led by Piers Coutts. The organist was Margaret Haynes who also read the first lesson. The offertory was presented by Lee Howard.

This Sunday's Sung Eucharist will be held at 9.15am.

HADDENHAM

Baptist Chapel

THE family service was conducted by the Rev Jim Mullin. Elizabeth and Bob were the musicians. Ann led the singing and Jim spoke to the children about all kinds of God's weather. Happy Birthday was sung to Mary and Ivor. Daniel and Joy took up the offering. Genevieve was presented with a Bible, followed by hymns and prayers. Drinks - coffee and tea were served after the service.

Alan and David will be playing on the keyboard and guitar at Blossoms and Bygones next week. The scrap books will be available to view. On Sunday evening. 'life worth living' the official follow-up for Alpha will be held at 6.30pm.

LITTLEPORT

L.E.A.D.S.

Littleport, Ely and District Spiritualists would like to say thank you to Medium Barbara Price for the many messages of comfort and that she gave during our service last week.

Once again, more new faces joined us, some of whom received messages from loved ones with indisputable evidence, proving life does carry on.

Meetings are held Thursdays at the Village Hall, Main Street, Littleport. Doors open at 6.35pm for spiritual healing which begins at 6.40pm through to 7.20pm.

Divine Service at 7.30pm and guest medium for this week (May 8) is Arthur Wright.

Following week (May 15) guest medium is Colin Anderson.

A raffle is held at the end of the service, this will be followed by light refreshments.

St John's Methodist Church

ST John's celebrated the Chapel Anniversary last weekend with a Gift Day and Coffee Morning on Saturday. The Rev June Mallabon led the morning worship which included the celebration of Holy Communion. This service was followed by a faith lunch. Rev Sheila MacInally, from Newmarket, led the evening service.

Sunday: Ian Weatherall will lead the morning service, which will include a baptism starting at 10.45am. The congregation from St George's Parish Church will join the evening service at 6.30pm and the preacher will be Rev Mallabon.

St George's Church

ON Sunday, the vicar presided and preached at the 8am Holy Communion and the 10am Parish Eucharist. Her sermon was centred on the Ascension which was celebrated on Thursday. At 6.30pm, our First Sunday Praise was led by Norman Sarkies.

Saturday: Coffee Morning with stalls, from 9.30am till noon, in the Parish Room. 2pm Puppet Workshop for adults and children over 11 years.

Sunday : The vicar will preside and preach at the 8am Holy Communion and the 10am Parish Eucharist. For the evening service we will join our friends at St John's Methodist Church at 6.30pm, when the preacher will be Jane Harris.

Monday: Mother's Union at 7.15pm in the Parish Room.

Tuesday: Pram Service for all pre-school toddlers and their parents/carers.

Evangelical Church

ON Sunday, Pastor Barnds led in the observance of Holy Communion. This week the church welcomes Evangelist Javier Castro. Pastor Barnds will be teaching on 'the great commission' on Sunday. Services - Thursday 7pm and Sunday 10.30am.

Tree House Club

THERE will be a special Tree House on May 10 at 5pm. There will be special activities from outdoor games on the all-weather sports pitch and indoor activities such as crafts, model building and various table and computer games.

Tree House is open on Fridays, from 6.30pm to 9pm and is located in the Evangelical Church. Admission is £1 and a tuck shop is available.

LITTLE THETFORD

St George's Church.

OUR service of morning praise was led by Ruth Dennigan with an inspiring sermon on not keeping 'God in a box'.

Sunday: United Family service for Pentecost with the Rev Scott and Tony Breeze, head of the village school, at 9.30am.

EVENING service was conducted by Mervyn Howard preaching on the parable of the pharisee and the tax collector.

Sunday: United family service at St. George's at 9.30am. At 6.30pm, the preacher will be Brian Mizon.Girl's brigade will meet on Friday evening.

Both congregations continue to pray for healing for Peter and Rene Cockerton.

SOHAM

Heartbeat Health Walk

ON Monday, 38 walkers, plus the three leaders, Liz Gwinnett, David Clark and Laurie Budd enjoyed a walk of 2.5miles around Soham.

Over 60's Club

ON Friday, Peggy Gibbon welcomed everyone to the meeting. Games of bingo were played, with Betty Lanagan calling the numbers assisted by Jean Peacock and Jean Wells checking the books. Diane Wheeling and Peggy Gibbon gave out the announcements. Refreshments were served and Vera Seal organised the raffle. The meeting was brought to a close with the singing of the club hymn.

Soham The Fen and Barway WI

PRESIDENT Sheila Knight welcomed members and guests to the meeting on Friday.

The business of the meeting was attended to before the introduction of the speaker. Members gave a warm welcome to Peter Jackson from Scotsdale Nursery and Garden Centre at Great Shelford. Peter had brought along a wonderful selection of plants.

He spoke about each of them individually giving tips on how they should be cared for.

There were many questions from the members which Peter was happy to answer. The plants were all for sale and very reasonably priced and were soon purchased by the members. Gwen Bridgeman thanked Peter for a lovely evening on behalf of everyone. Sheila organised the raffle and the committee ladies served the refreshments. The next meeting is on Friday, June 6 and the speaker will be Richard De Horsey talking about linens. The exhibition is a linen serviette.

Soham Bowls Club

THE new season has now started and the first open competition, the Tom Isaacson Cup will take place on Sunday. Entries are still being accepted .

SUTTON

Women's Institute

MEMBERS were welcomed to the April meeting and Jerusalem was sung. President Sylvia Hayler introduced the speaker, Amanda Veal of the Body Shop.

Diana Keating was given a facial and Maureen Peacock had a soothing foot massage. Amanda was thanked for a delightful evening, and she judged the competition for a beauty tip, which was won by Jill Hardy.

After refreshments, business was concluded, and transport arranged for various events held during the month.

St Andrew's Church

THE 250 Club raises funds to restore the church. In March, the £30 prize went to J Addison of High Street, Sutton.

WARDY HILL

Dominoes

THERE were four tables in play at the dominoes held on April 25 in the social club when Mrs M Dewsbery was MC. THERE were three tables in play at the whist drive held on April 28 in the social club when Mrs M Dewsbery was MC. WILBURTON

Archive Club

WILBURTON Archive Club meets at Bakery Close on Wednesday evenings, from 7pm till 9pm. On June 12 we will be launching an open morning at St Peter's Hall. This is in conjunction with the St Peter's Over Sixties Club coffee morning, from 10am till noon. If anyone is interested or has any memories old or new of Wilburton we would appreciate them being brought along and we can explain what the club is doing to help future generations remember Wilburton.

St Peter's Over 60's Club

MEMBERS had a day out on April 22, with a visit to Hitchin market in the morning and Cruise Hill in the afternoon.

On April 28, a bingo afternoon was held at the club, followed by tea and biscuits and a raffle.

The next outing is on May 20 to Sandringham and Hunstanton. Anyone interested in going can telephone 01353 740683 for booking and details.

The next meeting is on May 30 and will feature a bring-and-buy sale.

On June 12, a coffee morning will be held in St Peter's Hall from 10am to noon, entrance fee 50p. There will be various stalls and everyone is welcome to attend.

THE Rev Anna Hult led the family service with two baptisms on Sunday.

SUNDAY: There will be Holy Communion at 10.30am when the Sunday school will meet.

Tuesday: there is Holy Communion at 10am.

Wednesday: Morning Prayer at 9.3am. Toddler Praise service at 10am., followed by soup lunch.

Friday: Baby Café meet in the hall at 9.30am.

LAST Sunday's service was led by Rob Booth from the Countess Free Church in Ely. During the service, Holy Communion was taken.
