ELY residents interested in finding out more about a career in the fire service can go along to an open day on Monday.
The event is being organised by Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service at The Lamb Hotel, 9am to 8pm, with the aim of dispelling a few myths about the service.
Sarah Parsons, human resources adviser, said: "There are no height or maximum age restrictions, but you must be over 18 and you do need to be reasonably fit.
"Although there are some physical tests, we also assess a person's skills and attributes against national competencies for the role of a firefighter.
" The job isn't just about attending emergencies. Firefighters use other skills in the community safety work, such as giving talks to schools, visiting community groups, carrying out Home Fire Risk Assessments in people's homes, fitting smoke alarms and offering advice about how to protect the home from fire."
The open day will include a pre-application check list and a film explaining more about the physical tests and assessments.
