The film Pride is being shown in Ely to raise funds for Amnesty International’s human rights work.

Described by critic Mark Kermode as “one of the most irresistibly uplifting films of the year”, this film has had audiences across the country standing up and applauding.

Based on a true story, it commemorates the remarkable alliance between Welsh miners and London gay rights campaigners during the 1984 strike of the National Union of Mineworkers.

Winner of Best Film at the 2014 British Independent Film Awards, where Imelda Staunton and Andrew Scott were named best supporting actress and actor, respectively.

Pride will be shown at the Lecture Theatre, The Old Palace opposite Ely Cathedral at 7.30 pm. on Saturday March 14. Doors open at 7pm.

Tickets are £6.50 each and are available from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/305998, from Burrows Bookshop, 9 High Street Passage, Ely, or on the door on the night if not sold out.
