Fifteen year Tesco veteran Angie Squires, along with her friends and colleagues, have spent the last few months having fun and raised £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Married with two sons and three grandchildren, Angie was diagnosed with breast cancer over three years ago and refused to let it stop her day to day work and family life.
She continues to work at the Ely store when she is able.
After a period in remission, she was told that she may need more care than her network of family and friends could provide. She decided there and then that she wanted to make sure that she did something for her potential carers Macmillan before she is even cared for.
Thankfully she still hasn’t needed their help to date.
Best friends and colleagues Hayley and Rhiannon treated Angie to a spa day. It was then that she told them of her ideas to start fundraising, and without thought, Hayley got the ball rolling.
The three of them have done various fundraising events including, the annual Macmillan Cake Sale, a Macmillan Green Day, manager leg waxing and head shaving as well as raffles and donations on the tills in store.

Rhiannon, who is known for talking a lot, even did a sponsored silence for 10 hours over two shifts. To ensure that she complied with the event, staff members shadowed her. She was even complained about as she didn’t talk to one person who was at her tills, but the customer left happy after it was explained why she was doing it.
Higher management heard of the fundraising and added their own personal contributions, Ian Westwood, deputy store manager, told us.
Angie has become a well known figure in Tesco Ely among the customers who shop there regularly. They wanted to help and donated where they could.
The £1,000 raised so far was presented to Ava Paice of the Ely Macmillan branch in store along with the friends who had help make it possible.
