Dozens of archaeological objects found in fields using metal detectors, by walkers and people in their gardens were taken to an expert for identification at Ely Museum on Saturday.

The newly-appointed finds liaison officer for Cambridgeshire, Philippa Walton, was on hand on Saturday for an "Ask The Archaeologist" session.

Assistant curator at the museum, Elie Hughes, said: "It went really well.

"We had a lot of people in and the expert particularly liked the Roman coins and pottery found in Barway."

The session was part of the Portable Antiquities Scheme, which has seen archaeologists examine more than 100,000 objects across the country, many of which would otherwise have gone unrecorded.
