CHRISTMAS officially arrived in Soham on Friday when High Street was transformed into a seasonal market and meeting place for the evening.
As well as various stalls selling flashing bunny ears and electric wands there were roast chestnuts, fairground rides, tombolas and draws in aid of local organisations.
The evening saw the first exhibition by the Soham Artists' Group in the Viva Centre. Seven members had their work on show and reported worthwhile sales from the steady flow of visitors.
The Soham Community History Society was selling copies of their brand new publication, The Soham Chronicle Part 2. Part 1, compiled by the late May Turner and published in 1985, stopped in 1899. Part 2, compiled by George Ginn and dedicated to Mrs Turner's memory, takes up the story in 1899 and moves on to 1907. Copies are available from the History Society at £3.95.
Soham Town Colts, who run nine football teams for the young people of the town, were selling squares on their giant Christmas draw.
