PROCEEDS from last year’s Ely Folk Festival were presented to the Ely Aquarius Gateway Club this week.

Andy Wall, chairman of the folk festival committee, presented George Reed, treasurer of the gateway club, with a cheque for £1250, the donation included proceeds from the 2012 festival and the Morris dancers’ street collection in Ely during the festival.

The Aquarius Gateway Club is a social club for adults with learning difficulties aged 16 years and older which meets in The Forum, in Barton Road, Ely.

This is the second year that the folk festival has made a donation to the club, with the previous donation being used to fund new table tennis equipment for the club and a day trip out for the club to Banham Zoo.

This year’s donation would be used to fund further days out over the summer and other social activities for the club.

Andy Wall said “The folk festival is a long standing event strongly rooted in Ely and we’re really pleased to support local good causes.

“The Aquarius Club provides a great social facility for local adults with learning difficulties and we really hope they enjoy the social activities funded by our donation.”
