A FATHER of seven who asked to be jailed by Ely magistrates got his wish on Thursday, when he was sent to prison for three months.

Albert Lamb, 30, had admitted stealing eight alloy wheels and metal fittings worth 600 from a garden in Mildenhall Road at Littleport.

He had twice he failed to meet the probation service for a report to be prepared, so the court could have considered other sentencing options

"He would like you to sentence him today, and knows the likely result of that is a custodial sentence," said solicitor Adam Haselhurst. "There does not seem to be much alternative."

Lamb, of Winnold Close, Downham Market, had stolen the wheels and metal from Marie Dilley on October 13 last year.

He was spotted by neighbours as he loaded the stolen metal into a vehicle. He was arrested after taking part in an identity parade.

"It was an opportunistic theft," added Mr Haselhurst. "He went past the address, saw the wheels and decided to take them. Temptation got the better of him.
