Farmer, firefighters and animal rescue specialists work together to rescue cow trapped in river

A COW was rescued from a river by firefighters this morning.
One crew from Ely, one crew from Cambridge and a rescue vehicle from Cambridge were called to reports of a cow trapped in a river near to Green Hill, Little Thetford, at 7.45am.
They discovered a small cow stuck in the river near to a chapel.
A vet sedated the cow before firefighters, wearing in-water suits used specialist animal rescue equipment, rescued the animal.
The rescue was completed by 9am.
Paul Clarke, station commander at CFRS, said: “This was an efficient rescue with great partnership working between our specialist animal rescue-trained and in-water crews and the vet and local farmer.
“It led to the successful rescue of the cow which was returned to its herd unharmed.”
