HUNDREDS of well-wishers gathered at Ely Cathedral on Saturday to bid farewell to their local bishop.

Bishop John Inge, who has served in the diocese for 11 years, left to take up a post as Bishop of Worcester. He was officially appointed to his new post by the Queen in July.

He said: "I have seen great things happen here. We have been awake to what God would have us be. I shall miss you all greatly but, encouraged and inspired by everything I have experienced here, I go forward in faith and hope and love to seek to serve the Lord in a new place."

Bishop Anthony Russell, the Bishop of Ely, wished Dr Inge, his wife Denise and two daughters every happiness in their new Worcester home.
