A FAMILY fun day has given an £800 boost to a charity providing a wide range of activities for all ages in Littleport.
The event at the Anglia Co-operative foodstore in Wisbech Road, Littleport, on Sunday raised £802.90 for YPL Littleport.
The money will be used to provide special acoustic thermal curtains for YPL’s new performing arts centre.
Store manager Chris Wright, said: “We’re really pleased with the amount we raised and with the support we have had from the community for our fun day – it has helped us give a really good boost to YPL.”
YPL founder and manager Phil Malkin added: “Financially things are tight for everyone and to raise this amount of money is absolutely terrific for us. “We’re so pleased that Chris and his team at the Anglia Co-operative foodstore in Littleport chose YPL to benefit from the fun day – by supporting us they’re helping to support the whole community.
“The performing arts centre will be in use almost daily from September and the curtains will help shield users from the sun in summer and keep them warm in winter.”
YPL celebrates its fifth birthday in July. What started as a facility for the village’s youth now provides a base for activities for all ages at its sites in Granby Street, Victoria Street and Henry Crabb Road.
They include music workshops and recording facilities, dance and zumba, crafts, bingo, carpet bowls, computers and even model car racing.
Sunday’s fun day featured live music by acts including local band The Podium, who have benefited from the music rooms at YPL, and dance performances by youngsters from Fabulous Feet, who use YPL’s performing arts centre in Victoria Street.
There was also a variety of fairground rides, games and stalls. It was a busy day for Chris Wright, who received a drenching in the stocks and also joined his team in one of the zumba demonstrations led by Littleport woman Katie Scott.
