A Soham family celebrating three landmark occasions helped raised hundreds of pounds for charity.

Claire and Peter White, of Northfield Road, decided to hold a family party to mark their 30th wedding anniversary as well as their 50th and 60th birthdays respectively.

Mrs White decided that, instead of gifts for their big occasion, she wanted guests to donate funds to their chosen charity, Parkinson’s UK, in memory of her late father-in-law, Arthur Gammon.

The generosity of those who attended the party meant that £600 was raised.

Mrs White said: “I know these funds can’t help my dad but I truly hope they can go a long way to helping others affected by this awful condition. I want there to be more awareness and information about Parkinson’s UK as it is a condition that still seems to lack public understanding and I feel I wanted to do something to help the charity raise awareness as well as funds for those who need the vital services that Parkinson’s UK provide.”

According to the charity, 127,000 people in the UK are affected by Parkinson’s, around one in 500 of the population.

Parkinson’s is a degenerative neurological condition, for which there currently is no cure. The main symptoms of the condition are tremor, slowness of movement and rigidity.
