Police in East Cambridgeshire are warning of adverse driving conditions on the roads after a tree fell in Fordham.

Today (Wednesday December 27) has started with very cold and wet conditions but has developed into flurries of snow and some strong winds.

There are substantial puddles of standing water, particularly on the A142 between Newmarket and Soham.

A police spokesman said: “We are asking people to take specific care around Station Road, Fordham, where a fallen tree has obstructed half of the highway.

“The Highways Authority has been contacted and will be removing the obstruction as soon as they can.”

Sergeant Priestley of Ely police station said: “The conditions are very poor out there. If you don’t have to work I’d suggest it’s a great day to stay in and enjoy a warm fire and a seasonal movie (and maybe some chocolate).

“If you’ve had a Christmas tipple, please avoid the temptation of ‘guestimating’ whether you are under or over the limit. We also advise drivers to take particular care the morning after a party as it is not uncommon to wake up over limit.”
