Ruth O’Sullivan from History off the Page visited the school on January 17 and 18 to host ‘A Day in a Fairytale Castle’ workshops with pupils in nursery 2, reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

The school hall was transformed into a grand hall of a fairy castle and the children dressed for the occasion in fairy wings, sparkly dresses, crowns and capes.

The pupils’ mission was to prepare for the wedding of Sleeping Beauty and Prince Charming, and activities included preparing and serving food, learning the dance of the sugar plum fairy, acting as castle guards, acrobatics, singing, creating leather purses and making magic soaps and potions. The workshops concluded with the wedding banquet.

A few days before, King’s Ely Junior pupils took a step back in time and enjoyed a history workshop at Ely Cathedral. The History Pilgrims’ Day saw Year 7 students visiting the cathedral to learn more about the life of monks, medieval pilgrimages and the defence of the Isle of Ely by Hereward the Wake, as part of their history course.
