A fact finding mission about extra care housing gave South East Cambridgeshire MP Lucy Frazer a chance to find out more about what is on offer in her constituency.
The MP visited Sanctuary Group’s Baird Lodge Extra Care scheme in Ely where she had the opportunity to meet and talk with residents living at the development for the over 55s.
Ms Frazer said: “I enjoyed hearing the comments from residents about the benefits of living in an extra care scheme, which includes companionship and a real sense of community.
“Sanctuary’s support allows residents to live in their own home and retain their independence for longer and Baird Lodge is a good example of how older people can benefit.”
Residents were able to share their experiences of living in extra care accommodation while staff spoke with the MP about the independent living model of housing.
Extra care schemes, like Baird Lodge, offer residents their own private apartment with care and support as needed.
They also offer a range of communal areas and facilities where residents can meet and relax with others.
Resident Harry Nicholson said: “It was nice to meet Lucy and see how interested she was in local people and the facilities available to us.”
Baird Lodge has 35 apartments to rent with a range of on-site services and facilities.
All have wheelchair access and are designed to offer comfort, independence and peace of mind by being connected to an alarm call system which links directly to a care and support team who are on hand 24 hours a day.
