WEEKS of wild speculation about which company was due to move into an empty shop in Ely has finally been ended.
Health food supplier Grape Tree has agreed to take on the lease for the Market Street premises owned by John Borland, which has sat empty for almost two years since it was renovated.
Grape Tree was set up by Nick Shutts, the entrepreneur behind the Julian Graves chain of stores which was swallowed up by Holland and Barratt in 2012.
Mr Shutts has since opened 21 Grape Tree stores around the UK selling a similar line of products to those sold by Julian Graves. The new shop is expected to be open by mid-October with four jobs being created.
Mr Shutts told the Ely Standard: “I love the site, I picked it myself when I visited Ely earlier this year. It’s what i would call a landmark building, it’s very prominent and I like the building, it has a nice flavour to it and im confident we can be a success in Ely.”
