THE executive director of Friends of the Earth will be one of the speakers at a business ethics forum at Ely Cathedral from March 22-23.

Tony Juniper has mounted an effective critique of Government and corporate policies on issues such as global warming and GM crops since he became leader in 2003.

His presentation will focus on modern economic ideas and their environmental impact.

Other speakers will be Neil Makin OBE, the external affairs director of Cadbury Schweppes plc, and Andy Wales, group head of corporate responsibility at Severn Trent.

The opening presenter will be Prem Sikka, a professor of accounting who was the first academic to receive the Accounting Exemplar Award in the US. His seminar will ask how prosperity can promote social and personal well-being.

The Purpose of Prosperity is the second in a series of three forums taking place at Ely Cathedral on the ongoing debate of business ethics.

Canon Peter Sills, a former barrister, and now vice dean at Ely Cathedral, said: "It is not unusual for the church to take an interest in modern day environmental and business issues and we certainly have the facilities to support such events.

"We believe that through the business ethics forums we offer an environment which enables members of the business community to advance their thinking and their knowledge in an open and safe environment on these key ethical issues".

INFO: The Purpose of Prosperity takes place on March 22 and 23. The forum is available on a residential or non-residential basis. All the seminars will be held in the Long Gallery of the Bishop's Palace in Ely. For further information, please contact Lesley Ann Thompson on 01353 660350.
