A keen artist from Littleport Community Primary School was top of the class in a competition to design a new sign for the school's dining room.

Erin Malkin’s artistic design and name of ‘The Hungry Heron’ was picked by her peers in the competition, which was open to all the pupils at the school on Parson’s Lane.

The year six pupil says she was inspired by a stuffed heron, which takes pride of place in the school’s entrance.

“Drawing is my hobby and I do a lot in my spare time,” Erin said. “I got the idea from the stuffed heron in the school reception.”

Erin’s colourful design also won the praise of staff at the school, including inclusion co-ordinator, Steve Newton.

He said: “I’m extremely proud of the students’ efforts in organising the competition. I’m blown away by the quality of Erin’s design.”
