Success for Edith Ellen Foundation ‘Party in the Playing Field’ as donations expected to top £1,000
Donations for a Wisbech-based charity are expected to top £1,000 following a fundraising event held at Emneth’s playing field.
A charity concert, all in aid of the Edith Ellen Foundation, took place on Saturday, August 18 and saw artists from all over the country come to show their support.
The event featured music from artists such as Millie Hunt, Decades Music, Andy Hughes, The Dan The D, Burning Codes and Phoenix Calling.
The Edith Ellen Foundation was set up by Kate Blake after her elderly mother was abused while in the care home system.
Lara Blake Gourley, Ms Blake’s daughter, said: “The charity was set up by my mum after my nan was abused in the care system, so seeing how the event went really meant the world to her.
“She [Ms Blake] was really emotional on the day. We had lots of people coming up to us to talk about volunteering and helping out.”
The final amount raised during the event on Saturday is still being totalled up, with new donations coming in everyday. But organisers say it is likely top £1,000.
Ms Gourley added: “It’s been great to raise awareness as it’s a fairly small charity. Not many know about us but we’re right on people’s doorsteps.
“It was really successful, we’ve had some brilliant feedback from the community and all the bands that played said they want come back next year.
“We’re still counting up the money and waiting on a few more donations but I would say we’ve raised around £1,000 which is great.
In a post on social media, Ms Gourley said: “We could not have done [the event] without the Emneth Playing Field Committee, Bill from PE Generators, my new superhero.
“Shaun at Fenland Storage and Haulage, Sam at NA Studios, Julien and Fincheys for providing the bouncy castle, sweets, cakes and a lot of puff for balloons in the cars.
“Paul Smith Landscape and Gardening Services for gazebos and putting up, Norfolk Greyhound, KLFM, Fenland Citizen, Dick Ropa Entertainments.
“Norfolk Police for helping clear up before the event, the whole team at the Edith Ellen Foundation and every single one of you that came and supported us!
“Emneth School did the village proud, the children were fab! A shout out to Carmine from the music shop as always being on hand for advice and knowledge.
“Emneth certainly didn’t disappoint. Brilliant community spirit with lots of smiling faces!”
