Members of Ely Police’s youth consultation panel were given an insight into the everyday life of a police officer during a visit to Police HQ this week.
The group, created to try and improve the relationship between teenagers and the police, took a trip to Huntington to meet Police and Crime Commissioner, Councillor Jason Ablewhite and have a tour of the force’s base.
Panel members visited custody at Huntingdon police station, before watching a training display from the dog unit and handling genuine and replica guns, including Glock 9mm pistols, a colt revolver and a G36 rifle.
The group also toured the Force Control Room and took part in some interactive learning exercises, before finishing off the day by meeting Chief Constable, Alec Wood.
A police spokesman said: “We look forward to welcoming the group back to HQ on March 1 when they will be awarded £1,700 from the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation to support their social media initiative.”
