Ely Wood Turners Pick Up Four National Awards

MEMBERS of the Ely Guide of Woodturners took four awards in a national competition.

Pictured with their prize-winning entries are: Beryl Wallace (centre) who received a highly commended for her carving of comedy and tragedy, Phil Buckley, (left) took second in the Premier Woodturning class with his unusual design of earring stand and Ron Castle took third in the same class with his miniature spinning wheel. Ron also took second in the wooden toys class with his teddy bear.

These items, together with many other prize-winning designs will be on display at the Guild's annual Art in Wood exhibition and sale which will this year be held once again at the Ely Cathedral Centre, from August 16-25. A wide variety of carved and turned wooden items made by members of the Guild will also be available for sale during the event.

The Ely Guild of Woodturners was founded in 1988 and meets on the first Wednesday in every month at Little Thetford Village Hall. In addition, it holds full day meetings with expert demonstrators during the year. Membership is open to anyone interested in woodturning and carving.
