Sainsbury's in Ely will filled with festive music this weekend as part of a charity drive to encourage donations to the city's foodbank and toy appeal.

Local musicians will be in store to entertain customers and spread festive cheer on both Saturday and Sunday.

The toy appeal has been running throughout December with the foodbank - the store’s nominated annual charity - to help bring some magic to local families who may be unable to buy presents. Customers can donate toys and gifts in store up until Thursday December 17.

Steve Venters, store manager, said: “Our customers have always been extremely generous and we would like to thank them for supporting the foodbank’s toy collection. There’s still time to make a donation and we know our local charity of the year will be very grateful to receive support from Sainsbury’s shoppers this Christmas.”

Next weekend (December 19 and 20) Ely District Scouts will be in store offering customers a helping hand at the checkouts to raise money for their New Year.

Steve said: “We’ve got a wonderful selection of festive activities going on during the lead up to Christmas - all helping to raise vital funds for charity. Christmas is for sharing and we’re looking forward to helping our local community during this time. We’d like to wish our customers a very merry Christmas.”
