Pupils received their summer reading challenge medals and certificates at a ceremony held at Ely Library this week.

The children, who were each tasked to read six library books of their choice throughout the summer holidays, were joined by the Mayor of Ely at the ceremony.

The Summer Reading Challenge takes places nationally every year and children can sign up at their local library.

In a post on social media, Mike Rouse said: “The thing about being the mayor is that you do get to do some of the loveliest things.

“It was joyous presenting the summer reading certificates and medals at our brilliant library in Ely. So many young people we couldn’t get them all in the photograph!

“Well done our library staff, the volunteers who helped the children, parents and all the children themselves.

“What a great occasion and celebration of one of the best aspects of a fantastic community service.”
