A LEVEL government and politics students from King’s Ely Sixth Form got the chance to grill members of parliament on key political issues during their annual trip to Westminster this term.

After a tour of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the students participated in a speed dating style workshop, where they discussed a wide variety of topics with MPs and peers such as Andrew Bingham MP, Stephen Pound MP, the Lord Whitty and local MP and school governor, Sir James Paice.

In the afternoon, the students were extremely fortunate to observe a human rights case in action in the Supreme Court – the UK’s highest court.

Teacher Sharon Jackson said: “The students really benefit from our annual trip to Westminster.

“It’s wonderful for the students to be able to get out of the classroom and see for themselves how the political world operates.”
