HITTING the target is what business is about and the Ely Standard did that too by hosting an informal introduction to archery for a group of local business leaders.
The Olympics demonstrated the popularity of archery and at Mepal Outdoor Centre it offered some of those involved in our annual business awards a respite from working life to see how it’s done.
Centre manager Matt Lea explained the basics and took our guests ‘out on the range’ to show off only a fraction of what Mepal has to offer.
Some 30 guests enjoyed the evening which was rounded off with a finger buffet and reception.
Archant’s events manager Sarah Scott gave a short presentation explaining the rationale behind the 11 categories chosen for this year’s business awards.
She said it was a great opportunity for businesses to show off their capabilities and the awards were an essential ingredient in the development of new enterprises but offered positive encouragement when recruiting staff.
Editor John Elworthy told guests the annual dinner – held in the stunning setting of the Lady Chapel of Ely Cathedral- were the pinnacle of the year’s business awards campaign.
“Our job is to set the scene- which our team does spectacularly well,” he said. “But it is the momentum of the awards themselves which are what the evening is about. We are looking forward to another engrossing set of nominations and those who do win will know they have been judged against some of the best in their respective businesses.”
