A project to set up a skate park in Ely has received a boost of £365 thanks to a community funding project in Ely.

Riding & Skating Ely (RASE) was the voters’ choice at the seventh Ely SOUP event, where local people pitch their projects whilst enjoying soup.

Little Miracles and the Ely Stained Glass Museum also shared details about their projects with a busy audience at The Maltings, and there was information about how people can get involved.

Inspired by sessions in Detroit, Ely SOUP invites local people to pitch their projects in four-minute presentations to an audience, who then quiz them on what they’ve seen – all whilst tucking into a bowl of soup, bread and drinks.

The audience then vote on who they think should win, with the winner taking home all the money taken on the door at the session.

Organisers said: “Ely Soup is not just about funding, it is about building connections and empowering people in our community.”
