THE red carpet is being rolled out for the Ely premiere of The Golden Age as tickets go on sale to the general public this week. The sequel to Elizabeth, starring Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush, was filmed in Ely and Cambridge. It will be released UK wide on November 2, but Ely Cinema has organised an advanced screening of the film on October 28 in a Champagne-filled, Elizabethan- themed night at The Maltings.

And Ely's very own stars, the extras, will be doing a turn on the red carpet before being shown to their seats by Elizabethan-costumed ushers. There is even talk of a hog roast for those with an urge to swap the popcorn for banqueting. The event starts at 6.45pm and tickets are priced at £28, available from ADeC at the Babylon Gallery, Waterside, Ely.

Proceeds will go to Sue Ryder Care. And if you missed Elizabeth the first time round, there's a chance catch up on the plotlines before the glitz and glamour of the premiere. Ely Cinema is screening the prequel at The Maltings on September 27 and one lucky cinemagoer will win two tickets for the premiere on the day
