AN Ely man is hoping to give something back to the nurses who have supported his terminally ill dad in his battle against lung cancer.

Dan Regan, 39, says he has watched his dad Michael fade from a happy, active person to someone who has become a “prisoner” to cancer since he was diagnosed with the disease back in 2010.

Though the cancer is now untreatable, Michael has continued to receive help and advice throughout from Macmillan Cancer Support at his home in Cardiff and son Dan wants to say his thanks by taking on the Cardiff Half-Marathon on October 6.

Dan, a father-of-two young daughters, said: “The Macmillan nurses have been providing help to my dad and also supporting my mum who is caring for him at home. “They also produce free information leaflets and the ones I found at Ely Library certainly helped me start to get my head around what was going on and the fact he may not be with us much longer.

“I’m running in Cardiff because it’s where I was born and where my dad has lived all his life. I want to finish the half-marathon and then take my medal to show my dad and make him proud.”
