Both the Lady Chapel and the cathedral nave are featured prominently in the film, which is scheduled for release in October and stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.

The scenes were shot in March last year and saw a small army of production staff descend on Ely’s Cathedral Green.

Extras dressed head to toe like Medieval Scotsman wandered freely around the city while stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard also made an appearance, albeit amid tight security.

Fassbender will play Macbeth in the film while Cotillard is set to play Lady Macbeth.

Justin Kurzel, the director, chose to shoot at the cathedral just months after scenes from blockbuster ‘Jupiter Ascending’ were filmed on the site.

Oscar winning film The King’s Speech and The Other Boleyn Girl have also featured scenes shot in Ely. Macbeth is set for release in 2015.
