An Ely charity was given a cash boost of more than £1,000 and a Rotarian was awarded for his outstanding work at Ely Rotary Club's 79th charter night.
Members of the club raised £1,060 for club president Viv Doji’s chosen charity, Centre 33, which gives free, confidential help and advice to those under the age of 26 and helps give support to young carers.
A cheque for £1,060 was presented to Natalie Gildersleeve, of Cenre 33 by Miss Doji. The donation was then increased by £155 thanks to the proceeds of a raffle held on the evening.
The event was held at Ely Golf Club and there was live music from the Ely Rockin’ Ukuleles and dinner from the golf club staff.
Also on the night, Rotarian Mike Bentley was given the Paul Harris award – it is the highest honour awarded to a member who has benefited a club to an outstanding degree with his or her hardwork and input.
The award honoured Mike’s hard work as chairman of the community service and vocation committee, allocating donations to various local charities for thousands of pounds over many years.
