ELY Rotary Club held an induction session for two new members recently. Bob Smith was inducted at the club's meeting on March 7 and David Middleton on March 14.

David Middleton was born in Norfolk, and joined the police force at March in 1959. In 1966, he moved to Ely, and retired from the police in 1989. After he left the police, he became a self-employed painter and decorator for the next 10 years, and gave that up when he had an accident. For the past six years, he joined Care and Repair, East Cambridgeshire, an organisation which helps elderly and disabled people with adaptations to their homes.

He is married to Anne and they have two children and four grandchildren.
