Ely Country Park and Jubilee Gardens have been recognised by the Keep Britain Tidy Green Flag Awards Scheme, which rewards the country’s best and most well-maintained parks and green spaces.

The city spaces are among 1,686 parks and green spaces that have been given a Green Flag, and Cllr Hobbs believe the awards are thoroughly deserved.

He said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award for both Jubilee Gardens and Ely Country Park. This is the 12th year of recognition for Jubilee Gardens and the third for Ely Country Park from Keep Britain Tidy.

“The awards recognise and highlight that people in East Cambridgeshire are benefitting from a green space of the very highest quality.

“This recognition is very much appreciated by East Cambridgeshire District Council and demonstrates the hard work and commitment by our open space and community team.”

Established in 2009, Ely Country Park is home to two nature trails, as well as toddler, junior and youth play equipment and a bespoke picnic area.

Jubilee Gardens, which lie between the Great Ouse River and Broad Street, were opened by HRH Prince Philip in 2002, and contains water features, sculptures and a bandstand.
