A local man has thanked a brain injury rehabilitation trust by presenting staff and service users with a cheque for £2,500.

Terry Wilby spent time at The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust’s Fen House in Ely after a hypoxic brain injury caused by a cardiac arrest in March 2015.

Terry spent 12 weeks at Fen House where he received intensive neurobehavioural rehabilitation to help him regain independence.

He returned home at the end of August 2015.

Mr Wilby has been a member of Saffron Walden Golf Club Charity Trophy Committee, which has been raising funds since 1973, for over ten years.

The Committee has raised a total of over £300,000 which has been distributed to local charities.

Terry said: “I cannot thank the team at Fen House enough. They were so kind and patient with me. Raising this money is just a small token of my appreciation for the vital work they do supporting people with brain injury.”

The monies raised will be used to fund the purchase of IPads for use by service users at Fen House.

Roxy Rolland, Service Manager at Fen House explained how these will make a difference.

She said: “Many of our Service Users make use of technology as part of their rehabilitation using specialist programmes to work on particular impairments.

“In addition, many of the people we support are far from their families, so having access to an IPad where they can get online, browse the internet and engage with their loved ones. This generous donation from The Charity Trophy Committee will make a real difference to our service users,” she added.
