POLICE investigating a road accident found a machete and an array of other knives in one of the vehicles involved, a court heard.
Crown prosecutor Delia Matthews told Ely Magistrates that officers discovered the machete, as well a military knife, a hunting knife and a throwing knife, in the back of a van. They subsequently charged the owner of the van, 43-year-old Mark Langford, of Broad Street, Ely, with four counts of possessing a knife in a public place.
Mrs Matthews added: "The knives had not been used to cause harm."
Langford pleaded not guilty to all four charges.
The magistrates committed the case to crown court and adjourned the case until June 4 so that committal papers could be compiled.
