Crown prosecutor Delia Matthews told Ely Magistrates that officers discovered the machete, as well a military knife, a hunting knife and a throwing knife, in the back of a van. They subsequently charged the owner of the van, 43-year-old Mark Langford, of Broad Street, Ely, with four counts of possessing a knife in a public place.
Mrs Matthews added: "The knives had not been used to cause harm."
Langford pleaded not guilty to all four charges.
