A FORD Mondeo car forced to take evasive action landed up in the ditch on the A142 Fordham by-pass, magistrates heard this week.

The accident happened when pensioner Paul Cornwall had been driving a Kia vehicle; he overtook an Alfa Romeo, and forced the oncoming Ford Mondeo to get out of his way.

The 67-year-old, of Henley Way, Ely, was fined £100 after admitting he drove without due care and attention on May 24. Five points were endorsed on his licence and he must pay £35 costs and a £15 surcharge.

Writing to the court, Cornwall said: I didn't know about the accident until a witness stopped me and told me what happened.
