The monthly meeting of Ely Inner Wheel included a ploughman’s supper and a visit and talk from Jenny Childerhouse, chairman of Inner Wheel District 8 which covers East Anglia.

After the business meeting to discuss future dates, events and projects the meal, which was catered by members led by Julia Smith, was enjoyed.

After the meal Jenny spoke about her life and involvement with Inner Wheel. Jenny’s home club is Thetford a place where both her and her husband were born.

Jenny’s charity for the year is East Anglian Air Ambulance, which she has supported for a long while.

At the end of her talk Jenny presented the club with an air ambulance Teddy-bear and president Mary Rone gave her a cheque on behalf of the club for her charity.

As a souvenir of her visit to Ely, president Mary gave her a wooden “desk-tidy” in the form of Ely Cathedral’s octagon tower.

All in all a good evening of food, fun and friendship.

The next meeting is on Wednesday October 26 at 7pm at the Old Dispensary when the speaker will be Rotarian Rosemary Westwell ‘An Ozzy “Abroad’.
