Ely Golf Club captains raise over £7,000 for the Addenbrooke's stroke ward.

It is not just the open air and exercise (and of course the attraction of the 19th 'hole') that binds a golfing community.

At Ely City Golf Club they pride themselves on the support they give to local charities and on Saturday members came together to pass on the proceeds of some of their fundraising efforts.
Captains John Aspinall and Ann Russell – finishing the year with their traditional ‘putting out’ on the 18th green – were also able to hand over the proceeds of fund raising for their chosen charity.

And so the final tally – a whopping £7,010.69 – was presented to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, and earmarked for the stroke ward.
The two captains are to be succeeded by Greg Davidson and Marion Hough and they announced their efforts for the coming year would be in support of CPSL MIND, a local mental health charity.

A club spokesman said: “Every February current captains putt out on the 18th, handing over to new captains who drive in off the 1st.
“It’s an event which is always popular with members and onlookers.”
