Hundreds of shoppers and passers-by united in silence this morning to honour the fallen.
The hustle and bustle of Ely Market Place fell silent at 11am to commemorate the 98th anniversary of the end of World War One.
To mark the day, Cassie Rouse placed a cross in remembrance of her great uncle, Pte John Unwin, of the 1st Battalion Hertfordshire Regiment who was killed in action on 28/09/1944 aged 21 in Italy. He is buried at Faenza war Cemetery Italy.
Around 38 million people died in the First World War.
