More than 120 Year 7 students at Ely College took part in an ‘Energy Quest’ day as part of a science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) project.

The ‘Tomorrow’s Engineers’ programme allows students to look at careers in engineering and organisers are eager to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.

Organised in partnership with ‘Learn by Design’, this hands-on energiser workshop saw students take up the ‘Electric Car Challenge’.

Experimenting with electric components to perfect their designs and using stored energy to drive their kinetic cars, students utilised the same processes real-world engineers use to test their designs.

Sam Craven, head of science at Ely College, said: “Workshops like this complement our science curriculum and we are grateful to the ambassadors who joined us today for another fantastic event.

“Students enjoy the problem solving and engaging their creative thinking skills that will power innovative solutions for the future. We plan to host another STEM day early next year.”
